Chapter Four

I don’t move. Instead, I keep the glass glued to my mouth. My voice is hushed, bubbling against the drink as I say, “There’s not a soul alive that would dream of bugging my office, trust me on that.”

“You might be right, but you’re not as safe as you think.”

No one would dare fuck with me at this point. Maybe five years ago as I was rising through the ranks, but after I took over my father’s place at the top, not a fucking chance. I don’t know him, but I also don’t have a reason to distrust him. He’s a king in my eyes, and at the moment, I have it in me to hear him out. “Go on.”

“There’s a faction of your crew that is plotting against you.”

Interrupting him, I pull the glass away from my mouth. “No fucking way, not one of,” My words are cut short.

“What did I fucking say, bitch?”

The absurdity of his suggestion that my own crew would turn on me has me racking my brain in an attempt to recall what he just said, but I can’t think of anything right now. Real or not, his words enrage me. Taking a beat, I think. “You don’t want to say it too loudly.”

“Thats right, now shut the fuck up and listen.” Bringing the glass back to my face, I let him continue. “I don’t know who, and I don’t know why, but I do know that there’s a group of guys who want in on what you have. They want a bigger cut, a larger piece of the pie. They think they deserve more than they’re getting, but they’re fucking wrong. You own this town, but just remember that I own your cock.”

At the moment, I’m not entirely certain where this is coming from and why I’m just now hearing about it. But I need to find out how he came to know this information, before it’s too late for me to stop it. There’s nothing a single bad seed can’t do to contaminate the entire bunch.
